4/20

From Wikipedia –

“420, 4:20 or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) refers to consumption of cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis subculture. The notable day for these is April 20.

The term was allegedly coined by a group of teenagers in San Rafael, California in 1971. Calling themselves the Waldos, because “their chosen hang-out spot was a wall outside the school,” the group first used the term in connection to a fall 1971 plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop that they had learned about. The Waldos designated the Louis Pasteur statue on the grounds of San Rafael High School as their meeting place, and 4:20 p.m. as their meeting time. The Waldos referred to this plan with the phrase “4:20 Louis”. Multiple failed attempts to find the crop eventually shortened their phrase to simply “4:20”, which ultimately evolved into a codeword the teens used to mean pot-smoking in general.

High Times Creative Director Steven Hager was the first person to track down the Waldos and publish their account of the origins of the term. Hager wrote “Are You Stoner Smart or Stoner Stupid?” (October 1998) in which he called for 4:20 p.m. to be the socially accepted hour of the day to consume cannabis. “I believe 420 is a ritualization of cannabis use that holds deep meaning for our subculture,” wrote Hager. “It also points us in a direction for the responsible use of cannabis.””

Our 420 celebration will feature and inside show with Marasmus, The Roman Holiday, & Ancient Creation and a patio show with Arm The Poor, Higher Empathy Movement, & Voodoo Method. Both shows start at 9pm, red eyes welcome.

Tonight: David Hasselhoff On Acid

Tonight David Hasselhoff On Acid will put on a psychedelic aural/visual show to celebrate the release of their new CD & DVD. DHOA on the subject of their live show –

“We have no boundaries with our music, we believe in letting the songs go where the music takes us. Our music ranges from mellow jazz riffs to groovy funk and even bordering on the verge of metal. We put an immense amount of emotion in to our music and let ourselves be completely free from any false or fake energy on stage and off. Our live shows are more of an experience than a concert. We immerse people in the music until the show is done and the crowd wakes up from the reality we just put them in. We hold the idea that one cannot share their art with others unless the artist is completely part of their creation: the artist has to be the art. This is why our live shows are so powerful.”

David Hasselhoff On Acid will be joined tonight by Maps For Travelers, Cherokee Rock Rifle, & Brainbow.  Show starts at 9pm.

DJ 2Live Cruz will be spinning the grooves on the patio starting at 10pm! Its a beautiful evening for dancing under the stars!
